Harvest Labour
Office

MADEC Jobs Australia provides all year round Harvest Labour services to meet seasonal labour market needs. They supply labour to major harvest areas seeking large numbers of harvest workers to supplement local labour supply.

MADEC now operates 5 Harvest Labour Offices across three states. Harvest Labour Offices in Mildura, Berri, Wentworth, Robinvale and Swan Hill operate all year to alleviate some of the added pressure on growers during peak harvest times.

Harvest Labour Office staff liaise with growers, industry leaders and industry groups to keep up with regional trends and industry needs; communicate with

jobseekers outside the region to inform them of available facilities, transport and accommodation; and liaise with other labour services including the National Harvest Labour Information Service, and Job Network Members. This extends to other potential labour sources including universities, backpacker hostels and community groups.

National Harvest
Labour Information
Service

As a result of the Harvest Trail working party, the Commonwealth Government identified the

need to establish a national service to provide and coordinate harvest labour, through one provider.

MADEC was contracted in July 2003, by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations to provide the National Harvest Labour Information Service (NHLIS).

The NHLIS is not a Harvest Labour Provider; it is a referral service for job seekers looking for work, and employers looking for workers. When job seekers contact the NHLIS, they are given information on the availability and location of work, working conditions, accommodation, transport and region specific information.

The service operates from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday.

The harvest trail is supported by 3 key links:
• The National Telephone Information Service
which has a Freecall 1800 number
• The harvest trail website, which is part of
the commonwealth Job Search website
• The National Harvest Guide
(hardcopy and on website)
The NHLIS staff liaise with a number of groups and organisations at a local, state and national level to maintain accuracy and currency of data collected and distributed.
