The Mildura Region’s Mediterranean-like climate and soils are ideal for consistent production of high quality olives. While many horticulturists may have had a small number of olive trees on their properties in the past, olive growing has expanded significantly in recent years. Since 2004, the hectares of olives grown in the region have expanded fourfold. This development has been fuelled by increasing demand - in Australia and in many parts of the world, with the growing popularity of Mediterranean cuisine and greater awareness of the dietary attributes of olive oil. Geographical Information Boundary Bend Estate is currently the largest producer and supplier of high quality extra virgin olive oil in Australia, located on the Murray Valley Highway. With Robinvale Estate Olive Oil in close proximity, the area has become the olive growing and oil production centre of the Mildura Region. Varietals Imported varieties grown in the Mildura region include Arbequina, Barnea, Coratina, Frantoio, Hojiblanca, Koroneiki, Leccino, Picholine, Picual, Olivia and Rapanelli.
