Ports

Port of Melbourne
A large volume of exports from the Mildura Region move through the Port of Melbourne, which boasts the nation’s fastest road and rail connections, with advanced computer scheduling technologies, into two of Australia’s best stevedoring companies. 45 shipping lines connect the Port of Melbourne with more than 300 destinations.

The Port of Melbourne is committed to the facilitation and utilisation of strategic inland hub sites. The best example is the Wakefield’s intermodal site at Merbein, providing:

• Strategic location
• Access to road and rail transport
• Short term storage, pack/unpack facilities
• Storage of temperature sensitive cargoes
• Empty container park

The Port of Melbourne liaises and works very closely with the Wakefield’s Merbein site and personnel visit regularly, in order that both keep abreast with current and future changes affecting components of the export chain.

As well as liaising with the growers, exporters and the Merbein Inland Intermodal Facility, the Port has direct liaison with the Government offices in the region, along with transport companies and packers.

Direct and personal involvement ensures that all the participants in the export chain are aware of requirements, changes and are of the one aim, facilitating the flow of cargo to it’s destination through the Port of Melbourne.
